Why Ag?
What Does the Ag Stand For?
Some think it stands for Atkinson & Gray, the two founders of the Trading Post.
Some think it stands for Agriculture, which is the foundation of life. All wealth comes from the land and those who inhabit it.
Ag is the scientific, elemental symbol for SILVER, which was the original basis for our American economy. It’s not hard to trace back through the pages of history to find where or why our economy parted ways with silver, the rare metal used as money for nearly as long as history was recorded.
In the United States of amnesia, it’s difficult for most Americans to imagine our economy running without “cash”, even though silver is still respected in cultures across the globe as “money”. Further, history also taught us that every paper currency ends in failure.
The Ag Trading Post exists to demonstrate that a merchant can thrive (regardless of our country’s uncertain economic climate, currency barriers to overcome with vendors, and a shortage of potential customers equipped with our medium of exchange) by accepting and circulating lawful money. Our success is only the beginning: we will blaze a trail and develop a model for others to follow.
We aim to “Be the Change We Want to See in the World”.
